It is likely that coral reef interventions will soon be available for use in the USVI to support the survival of coral reefs in the face of thermal stress, disease, pollution, and ecological change. 

Growing up on the beaches of St. Croix, Kyle’s interest turned from sand to sea at an early age. Now, Kyle has made hundreds of scientific dives, has grown into an experienced field researcher, and is about to earn his Masters of Marine and Environmental Studies degree from the University of the Virgin Islands.

This is an exciting time for the Center for Marine and Environmental Studies (CMES) at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) as seventeen students will receive a Master of Marine and Environmental Science (MMES) degree on Thursday, May 17, 2018. (Cover photo: Colin Howe)

Dr. Kristin Wilson Grimes, Research Assistant Professor of Watershed Ecology at the University of the Virgin Islands, has worked to expand opportunities for women in the geosciences throughout her career. Recognizing the important role that diversity brings to innovation and creativity, she has fostered opportunities for under-represented minority students at UVI.
